2012 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO DAVIS STUDENT

Melecio Estrella is the 2012 recipient of the Cache Creek Conservancy’s annual scholarship. Melecio graduated from Da Vinci Charter Academy in Davis, and will be attending Portland State University in the fall, majoring in Environmental Engineering and working closely with the Institute for Sustainable Solutions.

Melecio has maintained an outstanding academic record throughout his high school career, and he also is very involved in extra-curricular activities and volunteer work. One of his outstanding activities was serving as a volunteer with Amigos de las Americas during the summer of 2011 in Honduras. In his essay he states, “I know that if I can live and work with people I’ve never met before, in a country I’ve never been to, in a language that’s not my first, for seven weeks, I can achieve my dreams and goals in life.”

Each year the Cache Creek Conservancy offers a scholarship of up to $1,000 to a Yolo County high school student who is pursuing an education in an environmental/natural resource science related field at a 2 or 4 year college or university. We are very please to award this year’s scholarship to Melecio and wish him the best in the future.
